Yr 2 Mini Games
Last week, Year 2 went to the athletics stadium in Melbourne to take part in a mini games competition. When we got there we took part in an opening ceremony and waved our streamers to represent England. Throughout the morning we joined in with different athletics activities including; giant speedstacks, running, mini bikes and under the sea dancing. We had great fun and all got a certificate and a goody bag to take home.
On Thursday 8th June five pupils from Westlands volunteered to give up their non- pupil day to be young leaders at mini games. This was the first year that the Chelmsford School Sports Partnership has used primary aged leaders and all five children were excellent. They were very busy through the whole day teaching children different events scoring and encouraging around 700 year 2 children. A real credit to Westlands, well done and a big thank you from the Sports Partnership to; Year 6 Joseph, Harry, Aiste, Anya & Year 5 Amber
Year 3/4Mini Wimbledon
On Friday 26th May Westlands took two mixed teams of year 3 & 4 children to take part in a tennis tournament at Danbury. The sun was out, perfect for an afternoon of tennis. There were only 3 teams taking part so it was a very enjoyable afternoon. All the children played well and relished playing against St Johns and each other. Our teams came 1st and 2nd place with one of our teams going through to the finals so good luck to those children. Well Done to Nysa, Clara, Isabella, Lavinina, Oscar, Toby, Robert and Dylan. Thank you to Dylan and Oscar’s mums for helping with lifts.
Before half term, Chelmsford School Sports Partnership put on a multi-sports morning at Writtle College for year 2 pupils who are showing potential in PE and sport at school. Our representatives were Jake and Sophia as they have caught the eye of their teachers all year across a range of sports.
The participants were put through their paces by Writtle College students and CSSP staff in a series of skills-based activities that tested their fitness, coordination and reflexes. A big well done to both Sophia L and Jake T who put in their best effort at each station, showing why they had been picked for this event. A special mention must go to Jake who was selected by the leaders for excelling at the football skills station! They both thoroughly enjoyed the morning and can't wait for the next sporting challenge.
Year 4 Swimming
Year 4 swimming has come to an end this week. After starting lessons back in October the whole year group have taken part in lessons each week. All the children have made a fantastic amount of progress gaining confidence in the pool and learning how to swim or improve their swimming skills. All the children worked extremely hard and all the staff involved are very proud of how much the children have improved in various ways. They finished their lessons by playing a fun packed game of water polo. A brilliant way to celebrate all the children's success! We also celebrated nine children's achievements as they were selected for being the most improved swimmer in their group. It was very difficult to make a decision as so many children have improved throughout the year. The following children received most improved swimmer medals a huge congratulations goes to; Danielle, Rihad, Jake, Jack, Lucas, Kaylee, Angela, Amelia and Dylan Thank you to Zoe Gardner from the Aqua Academy, Mrs Pateman, Mrs Lysandrou, all the year 4 teachers, Mrs Robinson and Mrs Kett.
Year 6 Cricket Tournament
On Wednesday 24th May, Westlands took a Year 6 team of boys to take part in a cricket competition at Great Waltham cricket ground. The boys played 4 matches of Kwick Cricket. They all each had to bowl, wicket keep, field and bat. The whole team improved throughout the afternoon and had lots of fun in the
gorgeous sunshine. Losing their first two games then winning their next two, Westlands ended a very respectable 5th place out of 7. Well done to all the team; Joseph, Rishabh, Louis, Kai, Tyler, Harry, Pavlos, Dylan and Saharsh. A big thank you to Mr Loveday and Kai and Louis' mum for helping with transport. Change 4 Life festival
On Friday 28th April, the Change for Life students went to Chelmsford College to play some sports games for the Change for Life festival. The pupils went on a massive trampoline, enjoyed playing archery and took part in circuit training. They were really excited to be invited to join in with the other schools from Chelmsford and had a lovely, fabulous time. Thank you to Sacha for taking us. YR 2 3-TEES CRICKET
Last week, we went to St John Payne to play 3-Tees cricket against other year two teams. It was so much fun and we found out we were quite good at it! We played four games altogether – we managed to win our first two games and came third in the group! We were very proud because we got lots of points and managed to score extra runs by hitting the ball through the gates lots of times. It was an exciting afternoon and we all had fun. Spring term 2017
YR 2 TAG RUGBY
Before the Easter holidays, Mr Burdge took a team of year two children to Writtle College for a tag rugby competition. The weather was kind to us after the event had been cancelled the week before due to the rain. The team played amazingly well, growing in confidence and scoring lots of tries – the practices with Mrs Robinson had clearly paid off! We won one, drew one and lost one in the group then managed to win and draw in the next stage, meaning we came 7th overall out of 13 teams. Well done everyone!
ESSEX CROSS COUNTRY FINALS
Oscar went to Hadleigh Park on Tuesday to represent Westlands for the Essex Individual Cross Country Finals. He competed against all other children from around Essex and came an amazing 11th place even with a fall and a twisted ankle! Well done Oscar you did both yourself and Westlands proud.
YR 4 SWIMMING NEWS
The swimming teachers would like to congratulate all Year 4 children who have done really well with their lessons. Some of our students have managed to achieve their 400m certificates. We are proud of each and every child.
Year 5/6 Cross country
On March 16th Westlands Year 5/6 cross country team went to Chelmer Park for the relays. The sun was shining and all the team were excited to compete in the last race of the season - for the year 6’s their very last race for Westlands. Congratulations to all the runners finishing in very respectable places. Girls came 14th out of 24 teams Anya, Aimee, Amber and Aiste. The boys came 9th and 21st out of 26 teams; Tyler, Hayden, Harry and Joseph; Ethan, Arash, Sebastian and Dylan. Thanks to all the parents for their continued support throughout the season we couldn't do it without you!
On Monday 13th March, seven girls from year 5 went to a netball tournament at Great Baddow High School. We played against 22 teams such as St Peters, St Marys and New Hall. Westlands was the only school with a year 5 team, so we came 5th out of 7 in our pool. The team had Amber as team captain - for the first game she was centre. Louisa and Ellie were shooters, Suha and Lucy were defending and Iqra and Emma cheered from the sidelines. We rotated positions for each match. We all tried out hardest and had lots of fun. We all improved throughout the game and now have stronger passes and learnt to be better team players. We would like to say an extra special thank you to our coaches Stacey and Mrs Simms. Year 3/4 Cross country relays
On Thursday 9th March Westlands year 3/4 cross country team headed off to Melbourne Park for the last event of the cross country season where they took part in the relay races. All the children had to run a leg each, the girls ‘A’ team came 11th and the ‘B’ team 18th out of 22. The boys ‘A’ team came 13th and the ‘B’ team came 17th out of 20. All the children did really well, worked hard and all cheered each other on. Well done Chiara, Olivia, Clara, Lavinia, Oscar, Harvey Lee, Robert, Dolton, Tyrese, George, Henry, Theo, Evelyn, Alice, Libby and Nina. Change for Life Festival
On Wednesday 8th March 10 children from Westlands Change 4 life club went along to Chelmsford Sports and Athletics to take part in a volleyball festival. The children took part in a variety of volleyball activities and finished off the day playing lots of fun volleyball matches. All the children represented our school really well and had lots of fun. Well done to Samuel, Hannah, Michael, Poppy, Vanessa, Louis, Carlos, Sahira, Skye and Saul. Thanks to the parents for giving lifts and supporting the children for the afternoon.
year 3/4 Cross country
On the 23rd February the running team from years 3 and 4 took part in very windy cross country races at Melbourne Park. It was so blustery and wet we had to wait in the athletics hall! We hope that everyone who took part is very happy with their achievement as it was a difficult day! Thank you to Mr Chambers for stepping in to help as Mrs Robinson couldn't go - hope he enjoyed it. Our very own year 3 Cross country county finalist
Huge congratulations to Oscar T in year 3. He has done so well in his finishing positions throughout the cross country season that he finished 2nd overall and has been selected to run in the county finals! We here at Westlands are very proud and all behind you... good luck Oscar!
Year 5/6 cross country
On 9th February a team of Year 5/6 children went to Chelmer Park to compete in their last cross country race of the league. The weather was bitterly cold but the rain held off... just. All the children ran their hardest and completed the course well.
Well done to everyone who represented Westlands; Year 5 Amber 29th, Amie 32nd, Iqra 40th, Hayden 63rd, Sebastian 71st, Ethan 83rd, Arash 96th and Harley 102nd. Year 6 Tyler 14th, Joseph 42nd and Dylan 92nd. Thanks to parents who helped out - we couldn't do it without you.
Year four swimming lessons
Year 4 swimming has been very successful so far this term. The children have been improving each week and learning lots of different water skills. Zoe Gardner (the swimming coach) has been very impressed with all the children and said she's really pleased with how well the children in her groups have progressed.
Year 6 Indoor sports hall competition
On Tuesday 24th January the Westlands Indoor Athletics team competed in the regional finals against 7 other schools from around Chelmsford. It was a very exciting afternoon, with our children displaying excellent team spirit, cheering each other on and trying their hardest in every event. Some of the events the children participated in were standing long jump, standing triple jump, 4 x 1 relay and 6 lap Parluuf. The children were a credit to our school, and we achieved a very respectable 6th place. Well done Westlands!
Year 6 Indoor sports hall competition
On Friday 13th January Westlands took a team of year 6 boys & girls to chelmsford sport & athletic centre to take part in the indoor sports hall competition. Westlands competed against 6 other schools scoring points for each event they took part in. The track races were the obstacle relay, under & over, 1+1, 2+2, 6 parlauf & 4 x 1 relay the children also took part in field events vertical jump, standing long & standing triple jump, chest push, javelin & speed bounce. All the team tried their best at their events they were also fantastic at cheering on their fellow team mates. At the end children's names were called out for outstanding efforts, zach & bailey were both asked to stand for excellence in standing triple jump &a Kai for the furthest chest push of the afternoon
Then the results were announced Westlands came joint first 🏆 They are through to the finals in a couple of weeks. Well done to all the team for being fabulous & thank you to Mr Chambers & Mrs Everard for organising & taking the children along to the event.
Autumn Term 2016
Sainsbury's Gold Award
On the 15th of December we were awarded our "Sainsbury's School games Gold Award" for PE. Some of our year six sporting stars were presented with the award as they have taken part in so many sporting events in 2015/16.

On Monday 5th December Charlie and Remae were chosen from all of year 2 for being gifted and talented in sport. They both got the opportunity to attend the Chelmsford School Sports Partnership Little Stars event at Essex cricket ground with 50+ other year 2 children from other schools in the area. They both had a really great afternoon taking part in various cricket based events including 3 tees cricket, boundary throwing and target throwing plus some dance too. They even got to meet Ellie the eagle!
Year 6 Rising Stars
On the 29th November Harry & Tyler were selected to attend Rising Stars G & T sports event at Chelmsford sport & athletic Centre.
They both took part in various sporting activities including Volleyball, Cricket & Basketball. They thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and both agreed that they liked Volleyball best.
year 3/4 Cross country
On Thursday 10th November Westlands took year a 3/4 team to the third cross country race of the season. It was a bitterly cold day with hailstones and rainbows but the team braved the weather and all ran their races well. Everyone tried their best. Well done to all the children. The results were as follows - Year 3 girls: Olivia 19th, Evelyn 41st, Clara 58th and Demi 72nd out of 94. Year 3 boys: Oscar 5th, Theo 23rd and Henry 26th out of 123. Year 4 girls: Alice 20th, Elizabeth 22nd, Chiara 25th, Lavinia 89th out of 98. Year 4 boys: Robert 70th and Harvey Lee 78th out of 94. Thanks to all the parents for your help and support.
Year 5 Tag Rugby
On a bitterly cold Monday afternoon 7th November we competed in a tag rugby competition. We sent 13 Year 5 pupils to play against other Chelmsford schools teams consisting mostly of Year 6 pupils. The standard of play was very high but with typical Westlands' determination our team didn't give up and conducted themselves well. Notable individual tries were scored by Ethan and Harley.

Year 2 mixed Football
Wednesday 2nd November a team of Year 2 children took part in a mixed football competition inside the dome at Great Baddow High School. It was the first time they had all played together and they did really well, only losing one game out of 4 and ending up in 5th place out of the 8 teams there. Well done to Damon, Sophie, Jameel, Rebecca and our top scorer Jake, you were all fantastic! Also, a big thank you to the parents who helped with transport and came to support the team.
Year 2 Teddy lympics
On Tuesday 1st November, 8 Year 1 children went to Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre to participate in the Teddylympics! After the opening ceremony (a dance to Bare Necessities), schools from the area competed in a variety of events including throwing, jumping and running. They were given a teddy mask which they added a decoration to each time they completed an activity and it was lovely to have some of the parents cheering us on! Everyone had so much fun and really tried their best.

Year 5/6 Cross Country
On Thursday 13th October Westlands Year 5/6 Cross Country team headed to Hylands Park for their second race of the season. After having rain in the morning the sunshine came through and made the conditions ideal for a good race for the children. All the children ran well and worked around the tough hilly course. Well done to all the children who took part especially to those who had not run a race before. Year 5: Amie 73rd, Amber 70th, Iqra 119th and Suha 130th both girls first ever race. Hayden: 77th Ethan 141st, Harley 142nd, Sebastian 119th and Arash 134th. Year 6: Anya 66th, Aiste 49th and Izzy 107th. Joseph: 32nd, Harry 36th, Tyler 39th and Dylan 130th. Thanks again to all the parents who came along and helped with lifts and managed the children. We couldn’t do it without you!
KS1 Cross country
On 12th October Wednesday afternoon saw the return of the Mini Cross County event at Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre. We took a team of children from Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2, who ran against lots of other children from their year group. As always, it was a brilliant event and all the Westlands pupils tried hard, had fun and were a credit to the school. It was great to see so many family members supporting on the side line. Well done everyone!
Year 5/6 Boys Football Tournament
On Monday 10th October Westlands took a team of year 5/6 boys to play in a football tournament at Great Baddow High School. They had four x 8 minute games to play in their first pool. All the games were seriously tough, Westlands boys just kept battling on and they didn't concede a goal throughout the first round. First game: 2-0 goals (scored by Louis and Joseph), second game 1-0 goal again by our super striker Louis. Then 2 draws with 0-0 results. The boys then went on to play in the next round again working hard as a team, when the whistle blew with a 0-0 draw the game had to continue with a golden goal where Westlands conceded their first goal against them. Finally they played their last game where they continued to shine as a team and scored two more goals winning 2-0 goals. Yet again striker Louis and Tyler scored. Well done to all the team who represented Westlands so well. Year 6 Louis, aka super striker, Tyler - great solid midfielder, Joseph - superfast midfielder, Kai - fantastic solid strong defender, Marshall -great solid defender, Harry - speedy midfielder and the very impressive year 5 boys: Lenny - excellent midfielder and finally Ethan - greatest goalie! He stepped in on the day and thank goodness, he was such an awesome goal keeper. Thanks to Mr Loveday, Mrs Gray and Mrs Robinson for their help with the team and all the parents for bringing the boys and their fantastic support even in the down pour.
Year 3/4 Cross Country
Thursday 6th October the year 3/4 cross country team headed to Melbourne Park for their 2nd cross country race of the season. The weather was sunny and the course set and ready. Now with results in hand, the team were determined to improve their finishing places. Off they went round the course and worked hard to place well on the finish. The results were awesome, so much so that the year 3 boys came 3rd out of all the big schools section! Well done to all the runners and thanks again to all the parents for their help with lifts, helping out to manage the teams and being stewards around the course. Fantastic results year 3: Clara 39th, Evelyn 12th, Olivia 11th, Oscar 5th, Henry 15th (first race for him) Theo 19th, George 41st (also a debut for him) Year 4: Elizabeth 27th, Alice 35th, Chiara 41st, Lavinia 66th, Robert 53rd, Harvey Lee 66th, Dotun 73rd and Dylan 74th. Last Tuesday, Mr Burdge went with two year 2 girls to Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre to take part in a tennis workshop. Ruby and Anjana had great fun, learning new skills and being introduced to Judy Murray’s ‘Miss Hits’ tennis programme. The programme encourages girls to play tennis in a fun environment where they can develop their skill and learn through the Miss Hits characters. There’s a free app that anyone can download!
Year 3/4 cross country
On Thursday 29th September a team of year 3/4s went to Hylands Park to take part in their first cross country race of the Pope & Smith league. The weather was nice and warm and the ground just right for a great race. All the children took part and tried their best and for some this was their first ever cross country experience.
Well done to all the children for both great work on the course and for looking out for each other and cheering everyone on.

Year 6 Sports Bronze Ambassador
Joseph and Louis were selected to represent Westlands to be our Sports Bronze Ambassadors.
On Monday 26th September the boys went along to Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre along with children from other schools to take part in Bronze Ambassadors Training. The boys were put into different groups and took part in three training activities where they learnt how to lead various events with other children and had to look at pros and cons in each event that they were taught. The boys both enjoyed the session and are looking forward to working hard at Westlands to implement their training into our school. Well done to both the boys who represented the school to a high standard.
Year 5/6 Cross Country
On the 22nd September, Westlands took a year in a 5/6 cross country team to Chelmer Park for their first race of the Pope and Smith league. The sun was shining and the course set and ready. The races all went well and all our runners did their best along the tough, challenging course. The children all supported each other and enjoyed the afternoon.

Summer Term 2016
MINI OLYMPICS WITH THE YEAR 2S
On Wednesday the 13th the Year 5s went to West Park with the Year 2s to run a Mini Olympics. We all spent a lot of time planning our activities and collecting our equipment. Each Year 2 team spent at least 10 minutes with the Year 5 teams taking part in the activities.
Both Year 5 classes had so much fun and at the end of the Mini Olympics we were all out of breath from the amount of cheering that we did.
We enjoyed working with the Year 2’s, we hope they enjoyed it too. The two Year 5 classes had such a great time and we thought it was the best P.E lesson ever. Richie and Skye Year 5
Year 3/4 Change 4 life Festival
On Tuesday the 12th July Westlands took 9 year 3/4 children to a Change 4 Life festival at The Falcon Bowls Club.
The children spent the afternoon trying out various exciting events. They did cup stacking, air curling, bowls and had a lesson in health with The Children's Health Project. They all had a really fun time and enjoyed taking part in all the activities. Well done to all for their fantastic behaviour throughout, they all represented Westlands wonderfully. A big thanks to Mrs Huntley and Miss Elwood for taking the children.
Year 4/5 Dodgeball Competition
On Tuesday 28th June Westlands took a mixed team of 10 children to Great Baddow High School to take part in a Dodgeball Finals Competition. The children played 6 on court at a time and played 6 games of 3 x 2 minute matches against other schools winning nearly every game and match. The team took it in turns rotating being on the court and all happily swapping off with true team spirit, cheering each other on and working hard giving it their all in every match. Westlands ended up in 2nd place which was a really fantastic result. Well done to all the team: Pavlos, Joseph, Harry, Marshall, Tyler, Riley, Lenny, Flo, Melissa and Amber. Ks2 Districts Sports 2016
On Monday 20th and Friday 24th June Westlands took part in the Annual District Sports Competition where children were selected to represent their school in various athletic events which included; the long and high jump, throwing, sprinting and 600m. All the children tried their best and it was a fantastic sunny afternoon. All the children really cheered each other on. Well done to all who competed: Joseph, Louis, Riley, Zach, Colette, Kamsi, Robert, Nina, Emily, Lenny, Jayden M, Amber, Florence, Pavlos, Anya, Marshall, Shihab, Tyler and finally these children for doing especially well, Melissa who came 3rd in the long jump, followed by Tyrese 3rd in sprints, then Aiste, Crystal and Amie all finishing 1st in their sprints. A huge thank you to Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Rutter who all helped with the afternoon, we couldn't have taken part without them.
Year 3/4Mini Wimbledon Tennis Final
On Wednesday 22nd June, Robert, George, Lavinia and I went to a tennis tournament at the Marconi Tennis Club. Robert and Lavinia are in year 3 and George and I are in year 4.
We had nice hot weather, which meant we had a better time and everybody got good scores. It was lots of fun! Westlands performed really well, winning the majority of our games. We showed great team spirit and were very supportive of each other.
More than 40 schools participated in the tournament and Westlands came an incredible 3rd, only being beaten by the New Hall A and B teams. Mrs Robinson, our tennis coach, said that we all improved throughout the tournament and played extremely well! My team and I would like to thank her for being such a great coach and for giving us the opportunity to take part in this tournament. Amber (ML)
Some of our year four children took part in Drowning Prevention Week at swimming on Wednesday. They were taught how to step into the water without going under, to tread water and to float using aids alone and in small groups. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the session.
KS2 QUAD KIDS COMPETITION
On Monday 13th June Westlands took two mixed teams of 8 children Years 3/4 and 5/6 to take part in a Quad Kids competition. They all competed in 60m/80m sprint, 400m/600m race, standing long jump and vortex howler throw. Both teams tried their best and supported each other throughout the competition. They finished just in time before the downpour. Years 3/4 came 7th out of 8 and Years 5/6 came 4th out of 8. Well done to all the children who took part; Years 3/4 - Alice, Elizabeth, Yasmin, Amber, Tannush, Ethan, Harley and Robert. Years 5/6 - Anya, Aiste, Emma, Charlotte, Joseph, Louis, Emmanuel and Emil.

YEAR 5 HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
Last week, Monday 6th June 12 children from year 5 were chosen to take part in a hockey tournament. They completed against 13 other schools. Westlands entered two teams that were made up with both of the year 5 classes. The children in the teams played extremely well, especially in the scorching hot sun. It was the perfect type of weather and everyone enjoyed playing hockey in the sun. "I thought of it as being great fun and the event made me get better at hockey and made me get better working as part of a team." Melissa said. "I thought it was really fun! It helped me get better at hockey. Also lots of my friends were there! I couldn’t believe I was chosen as a player!" Jessica said.
Mr Bretton says that all of the players showed great improvement during the day and played well together in teams.

YEAR 2 MINI GAMES
Last Thursday 9th June 2016 all year 2 children went to Chelmsford Athletics Centre where they took part in a mini-Olympics against other schools from the area. As always, it was a fantastic event and the children had lots of fun, taking part in a wide range of activities from throwing to cheerleading. There was even an opening ceremony parade led by a big brass band, Olympic mascots and the Mayor! Their effort and behaviour was outstanding and they all improved throughout the afternoon. A special congratulations goes to Evelyn, who came 2nd out of all the girls, and Rahul, who came 1st out of all the boys! A fantastic achievement considering there were hundreds of competitors. Well done!!
Year 5/6 Girls Kwick Cricket Tournament
On Wednesday 25th May, the chosen Year 6 girls; Charlotte, Joanna, Javee, Shreya, Snehita, Bethany, Shaleeza and Sophia, went to a Kwik Cricket tournament at the Old Chelmsfordians Cricket Club. They played against New Hall B, Springfield, St Michael’s and Great Waltham. It was a great experience and they really enjoyed it. By Sophia & Shaleeza
Year 5/6 Boys Kwik Cricket tournament
On Friday 20th May, 8 year 6 participants, Aaryush, Manveer, Thomas G, Jasmir, Matthew L, Charlie S, Lewis H and Harvey M went to play a Kwik Cricket tournament at KEGS playing ground near Broomfield. They played 3 different teams, Moulsham, Perryfields and Boreham. Surprisingly, they had a great reunion with Mr Bowyer, who was coaching the Boreham team. Westlands results were: 4th out of 7 teams, which was better than last year! All in all, they had an excellent day out. Special thanks to Mrs Everard and Mrs Mitchell for providing transportation and also to Sacha Robinson for team training and cheering them on. By Aaryush and Manveer (KL)
Year 6 Rising Stars
On Tuesday 17th May year 5 students Kai, Louis and Joseph attended Rising Stars where they competed in various sports including javelin, long jump and hurdles. Louis received a certificate for the longest javelin throw and they all did well and tried their best in all the events, but mostly they all had lots of fun. By Joseph (KR)
Year 2 Little Stars
Last Wednesday we went to Writtle College with the Little Stars club. We did lots of activities, including tennis, golf and basketball. We got certificates for good skills in tennis and golf. We had a fun time! By Oscar and Evelyn (SB)
Year 3/4 Mini Wimbledon Tennis Competition
On Monday afternoon, with the sun shining, eight year 3/4 pupils made up two teams and went to Marconi Tennis Club to play a mini-tennis competition against seven other school. Altogether there were sixteen teams in the competition. The pupils were: Amber, Dylan, Yasmin, George, Gregory, Louisa, Lavinia and Robert. The pupils were a credit to the school and performed superbly. One of the Westlands' teams came a highly creditable sixth. The other team came a superb second overall, narrowly losing to New Hall in the final and have now qualified for the district finals! Many thanks to Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Cooper for assisting on the day.
Year 2 Tag Rugby Competition
The first sporting event of the summer term saw a team of five year two children travel to Galleywood Infants School to take part in a tag rugby competition against 15 other teams. The children performed admirably, winning three and drawing one of their five games. Their only loss came from a single last minute try. They ended up coming 9th out of 16 teams which is fantastic given the relatively limited experience they've had of the sport. It was a great competition (made even better by the lovely weather) and the children had loads of fun and enjoyed every minute, as did the parents watching from the side. Team photo below. Year 4 Swimming News
This term our year 4 pupils have all been taking swimming lessons at The Boswells School. They have all worked really hard and all achieved certificates in various levels for their efforts. All the year 4 teachers and swimming team are very proud of the whole of the year group for their excellent progress. We look forward to next term where we will carry on with lessons and watch the children to continue to strive in their swimming skills & development.
Year 6 Sportshall Athletics Competition
On 11th January 2016 Westlands year 6 children took a team of 23 children to csac to attend a very exciting indoor sports hall competition. The children could take part in up to 2 field events & 2 track events. All the children worked really hard in all their events from the fast running races, exciting obstacle relays to standing triple jump, speed bounce & chest push throw plus many more. All the children were excellent for the whole afternoon & represented Westlands fantastically supporting all their team with lots of cheering. Thank you to Mrs Everard & Mrs Mitchell for taking the children to the event and organising all the children. It was also really great to see our new head teacher Mrs Pavitt come along & support the children at the competition, she throughly enjoyed herself.
Inter house competitions
This term each year group completed their pe lessons by each having a level one competition in the sport which they had been learning. Here are the results year one had a dodgeball competition, in 4th alexis, beau, Damon emanuela & kieran. 3rd Sophia, Matthew, sulone, masud & joe. 2nd Koby, Lucy, Skye, Harry, Alyssa & lyla. 1st Jake, Archie, Joshua, kaleb & Sofia. year two had a ball skills competition 3rd class SH, 2nd class SB & 1st class SW. year three had a hoop ball competition 6th class MG team monkey, 5th class MG team rhino, 4th class MB team reindeer, 3rd class MC team zombie, 2nd class Mc team peanuts & 1st class MB team Santa. year four had a team games competition joint 3rd forest & Waterhouse with 7 points 2nd beeches 10 points & 1st ravensbourne 11 points. year five a speed stacking competition 3rd Marshall, 2nd Isabella & 1st Riley. year six had a dance competition 4th Bethany, Charlotte & Lucy, 3rd lade, Sam, nilavan & Levi. 2nd becky, emma v & Leah & 1st emma w, teegan, Laila & Amelia. Well done to all the children for taking part and for the teachers organising all the fun competitions.
Year 5/6 Cross Country Relays
17th March 2 teams of year 5/6 children went to run the last race of the season relay style. The sun was shining and the children had a big task ahead of them the course was a long 1600m trek. The girls worked hard as a team starting off at the first change over in 10th position keeping their position for the second then went up into 6th position and finishing 5th out of 14 teams. Then for the boys again working together as a team, First change over the boys were in 7th place, then dropped to 13th, then 14th and finally finished in 12th position out of 21 teams. Well done to all the runners, Emma V, Emma W, Anya, Aiste, Joseph, Harvey, Jack & Emil they were awesome. Thanks to the parents for all their support over the season you have been fantastic! A massive thank you to Mrs Rutter & Mrs Boulter for helping out at running club.
Year 3/4 Cross country Relays
10th March Westlands took a year 3/4 team of girls and boys to take part in the last race of the cross country season. The children each had to run 1 leg of approx 1000m-1200m. All the children ran well and had to push themselves around the course. The girls were in 12th place on the first leg where they stayed for the 2nd & 3rd leg then finished in very respectable 11th place out of 16 teams. The boys then went off again running their hardest round the course at the first leg they were in 12th position then in 2nd & 3rd leg were 13th and finally finished in a good 14th position out of 16 teams. Well done to both teams for their hard work. Alice, Elizabeth, Amber & Yasmin for the girls & Robbie, Ray, Hayden & Ethan for the boys. Thanks to all the parents for their continued support throughout the season, we couldn't do it without your help!
year 5/6 Cross Country
On 11th February 2016 year 5/6 went to Hylands Park to race at the Pope & Smith cross country race. All the team ran their best and came in some great positions. Year 5 girls Aiste 43rd, Anya 48th year 4 Amber 93rd & Yasmin 95th out of 134. Year 5 boys Harry came an excellent 17th, Joseph 58th, Tyler 73rd & Marshall 93rd out of 162. Year 6 girls Emma W a fantastic 10th place & Emma V 48th out of 106. Year 6 boys Emil came brilliantly 21st, Jack 120th & Harvey 121st out of 131 boys. Thanks to all the parents support with lifts and helping with all the runners on the day.
Year 3/4 Cross country
On February 4th 2016 Year 3/4 cross country race at Melbourne Park. A lovely fresh afternoon and Westlands team turned up raring to go. All the children competed well and tried their best. year 3 girls & boys Elizabeth came in a super 12th position followed by Alice 40th, Phoebe 50th & Chiari 51st. Oliver fantastic race came in 22nd place, robbie 38th, Doltun 86th, Dylan n/a. year 4 girls & boys Amber 47th, Yasmin 51st, Emma 69th. Hayden 61st, Ray 62nd & Harley 87th. Well done to all the team with great team spirit and great effort. Thanks to all the parents for their support with lifts and cheering on the children.
Year 6 Rising Stars
On December 1st 4 of our sporting gifted & talented children were selected to attend an afternoon rising stars at csac where they got the opportunity to take part in various sports with lots of children Representing their schools. These sessions are great for the children to try new sports and work with & meet other gifted & talented children. Well done to those who were selected.
Year 2 Little Stars
On November 30th 2 of our gifted sporty children from year 2 were chosen to attend little stars at Chelmsford cricket ground where they had a super fun afternoon learning & developing new cricket based skills & playing a game of 3 tees cricket, both children tried really hard and got a lot out of the session & also got to work with lots of other talented sporty children from other schools. Well done to both of you.
Year 5/6 Cross Country
On November 12th Year 5/6 race held at Melbourne Park. Tough race today with lots of schools competing all the team worked hard and did their best. Year 5 Aiste 22nd, Anya 37th, Yasmin from year 4 came 96th. Harry 30th, Joseph n/f. Year 6 Emma fantastic 9th place, Emil brilliant 25th place, Lade 84th,Charlie 133rd & Harvey 135th. Year 1 Teddy lympics
On November 10th 8 children were selected from year 1 to take part in a teddy lymics event at csac where they took part in lots of sporting events and created a teddy bear mask as they completed each sporting event. All the children had a really fun afternoon and all tried their best. Well done to all the children and to the parents who helped with lifts.
Year 3/4 Cross Country
On November 5th year 3/4 cross country wet and chilly weather, and a very muddy field the team still turned up at Chelmer Park ready to go! All the children ran their hardest with the new rules parents and teachers/helpers have to stay in their designated area. The children had to run their own race and they did so very well year 3 girls Our debut lady Elizabeth G came in a cracking 14th place, Alice W came close behind 21st, Phoebe came 64th, Alexia G from year 2 ran her debut last minute and came an amazing 76th out of 92.Year 3 boys another fantastic debut result by Oliver C coming 15th, Alfie D 56th, Robert M 80th and Jake J 82nd out of 93 Year 4 girls Amber C came in 20th, Yasmin G 23rd, Nina S ran up a year 27th and Emma W came 69th out of 109 year 4 boys Hayden M, 31st, Ethan B 61st and Dylan C 102nd out of 103 Great race by all, making Westlands proud! Year 2 Mixed Football Tournament
November 4th a mixed team of year 2 children went to a ks1 football tournament after school. They played 4 a side matches with rush goalies. They did really well and worked hard as a team. Well done to all the children who took part and for Mr Burdge for organising and taking the children.

On October 15th 2015 the year 5/6 team of cross country runners went over to Hylands Park for their race against a huge amount of children. All the team did really well!
Year 5 girls Team Anya R came 52nd, Melissa 66th , year 4 Yasmin came 91st, also running up a year was Amber coming 81st & this was also her first cross country race . Year 5 boys Harry coming in a super 15th place, Joseph 20th, Louis 79th & Kai 69th . Year 6 girls Emma W tough race today coming a fantastic 9th place. Year 6 boys Emil came an awesome 7th place, Alfie E 39th his first race of the year, Lade , Charlie & Jaz . Well done to all the team for your great effort and again thanks to the parents support in getting the children to the race and supporting them.
Year 3/4 Cross Country
Another sunny afternoon for cross country on Thursday 8th October our Westlands cross country team headed over to Melbourne park to compete against double the number of children this week. First off was the year 3 girls race battling round the 700m course the girls finished in some fantastic positions Alice 19th, Nina 10th, Courtney 76th & our first timer Phoebe came 46th place! The boys went out on a longer 900m course where again they worked hard and finished in some awesome places Robert came in 11th place Charlie 96th & our 2 first timers came in cracking positions Alfie 56th & Jake 59th. Year 4 girls 900m race went well all girls battling hard to gain some great positions Yasmin 41st, Loiusa 75th, Emma 76th & our first timer Amie came 54th! Finally the year 4 boys had a tough course of 1100m finishing well Hayden came 25th, Ethan 62nd, Lenny 51st & Tannush got hit in the side winded and sadly didn't finish all was well.
Well done to all the year 3/4 team you are all superstars with great team spirit always cheering each other on! Thanks again to parents without your support with transport & cheering on our team we would not be able to compete in these great events!

Year 5/6 Cross Country
First race for year 5/6 cross country commenced on Thursday 24th September at Chelmer Park which is always a tough course. Year 5 girls started the challenging course working so hard to gain some great positions Aiste P 34th, Anya R 39th, Melissa A 57th & our year 4 super star running up a year group Yasmin G 70th out of 126 girls. followed by the year 4 boys, who had a longer course set out for them, a hard race of boys Harry H came in an awesome 9th place, Joseph T 52nd, Louis G coming 105th & Dylan C finishing with a smile on his face came 131st out of 144 boys . Having 1 year 6 girl Emma W in the team for Westlands she made herself present, with the whole of the Westlands team behind her cheering her on the whole way, she ran up front around the whole course and got beat just before the finishing line but she raced to the end and gave everything she had an amazing tough race. A very respectable 2nd place achieved out of 101 girls by Emma W Well done! Finally the year 6 boys race, by far the toughest course set off our boys went out strong and worked through the whole course a seriously gutsy race! Emel W started strong and kept up his pace round the whole course coming in an amazing 8th position, Lada F our super sprinter met his match, he was not far behind Emel throughout 3 quarters of the course but struggled the last part of the course, still coming a fantastic 43rd position he said he's happy to train and challenge himself to compete again, both Jack B coming in 119th & Charlie S coming 106th out of 124 boys, didn't give up and finished the race well. Really proud of all the team and especially the year 6 boys for such a hard performance!

Year 3/4 Cross Country
What a great start to the cross country season our team of year 3/4 runners. We went over to Hylands Park on Thursday 17th September for their very first race of this year. For some of the children their very first cross country run ever! The weather was sunny and bright and the ground conditions perfect. All the children tried their hardest and ran their best. Everyone finished the race and not only did they finish but they all finished in some awesome positions too! Well done to all our superstar cross country runners year 3 girls Nina came an amazing 4th, Alice fantastic 5th, Crystal super 7th with a sit down & shoe adjustment too! & Courtney came brilliant 35th! Boys Robert amazing 20th, Charlie great 40th, Kenny 43rd & Doton 45th place! year 4 girls Yasmin superb 15th, Louisa excellent 22nd, Emma great 33rd & Lucy brilliant 39th! Boys Lenny super 11th, Hayden fantastic 16th, Ethan great 28th & Ray fab 43rd! The year 3 girls did so very well they WON out of all the schools who competed! Thank you to all the parents help and support and brilliant cheering on!
Summer Term 2015
Mini Wimbledon Tennis Competition
On the 12th May 2015 Westlands took 2 mixed teams of year 3/4 children to The Marconi Tennis Club to compete in a “Mini Wimbledon Competition.
The teams were put into a pool of 5 teams & each child had to play 4 minute “singles” matches against all the teams in their pool.
Serving diagonally across the court from the base line and then in their ready position to play.
There were some fantastic rally’s played by the children and as the afternoon went on the children really did improve. They won some, drew some & lost some. The children were then seeded into Play off pools Westland’s came third & second out of their pools so they then had to play 2 more games for the final results. Again with some amazing tough rally’s the children all played their best, right through to the end of the afternoon. Westland’s finished a very respectable 7th (B team) and 4th (A team)out of 15 teams. Awesome result!
Every child improved their game today and represented Westlands fantastically.

Year 5/6 boys Kwick Cricket Competition
What a fantastic afternoon of cricket! Our Westlands team of boys attended a Kwik Cricket competition at the Kegs playing field on the 12th of May 2015 against 5 other schools. Each team played 3 half hour games of Kwik cricket the teams start with 500 points then gain points for runs scored and lose points for wide bowls and being out. The first game was against The Cathedral School, the boys played a great game but lost by just 21 points. Then the second game was played against Kings Road the boys played really well and won by 10 points. We then had the play offs against Springfield Primary for 3rd or 4th position, a great game played by both teams. The boys lost by just 10 points! Which meant Westlands ended up in a very respectable 4th place. The boys worked excellent as a team, sharing positions when fielding, taking turns as captains, giving each other really positive feedback, lots of communication and praise. It was a real pleasure to watch such super games of cricket. Westlands are very proud of the whole team. Well done to Aaryush, Emil, Emmanuel, Jaz, Harvey, Manveer, Thomas & Matthew.
Year 2 Little Stars
On Wednesday 20th May 2 year 2 children were selected to go to Little Stars for children who are gifted and talented in sport. Ronnia and Ebony H went along to Writtle College to attend they both took part in various activities including tri golf, tennis and rounder's. They both had a really enjoyable time trying different activities and Ebony even gained a certificate for achieving the best shuttle run time out of the competition. Well done girls.
Year 5/6 Girls Kwick Cricket Competition
On the 2nd June 2015 8 of the year 5 girls went to Old Chelmsfordians Cricket ground to compete in the Kwik Cricket girls finals. Our school played against the Moulsham and Springfield primary schools Kwik Cricket teams. It was an exciting but exhausting day. In the first match, Westlands lost to Springfield but in the second, Westlands and Moulsham drew. Unfortunately, in the end, Westlands came in 3rd place but all eight of us still had a lot of fun! by Shaleeza

Year 4/5 Dodgeball Competition
On Wednesday 24th June 2015 after school Westlands took a mixed year 4/5 team to Great Baddow High School to take part in a dodge ball competition. The children took part in various skill development warm up games at the beginning and then the competition began. The teams played each other 3 x 2 minutes games. First game Westlands played against Lawford Mead, they lost 2-1. Second games was against New Hall where they drew 1 win 1 lose & 1 draw. After that the team played St Michaels they won 2-1. On the last game against Springfield they also won 2-1.
Finishing a very respectable 2nd place. All the children worked really hard throughout the competition and by the last 2 games were working hard and well as a team. All the children had a super afternoon and represented Westlands proudly.

On Friday 26th June 2015 Westlands took a mixed team of years 3-5 children to Chelmsford Sport & Athletic Centre to take part in the annual Districts Sports competition. It was a very hot and sunny afternoon. All the children ran their races the best they could. The all tried their best.
Well done to all the team for all their efforts and a big well done to Emma W who came 3rd in the year 6 600m race, Lade who won his 80m race and Emmanuel who came 2nd in his 80m race.
