Early Years

Welcome to Early Years.

Hello, welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage.

In the Autumn term we are exploring the topic

Once Upon a Story. We will looking at the traditional tales of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears,’ The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Christmas Story’

During the first half term we will find out from a variety of sources what life is like in the North/South Pole, which animals can be found there and how animals and humans live. We hope that our new topic of ‘Superheroes’ will help the children understand values such as helping others and will think about the qualities that a superhero may have. We will learn how the Chinese New Year is celebrated and will make comparisons to the children’s own experiences. We will look at the British tradition of Shrove Tuesday.

In the second half term we begin by reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and look at healthy eating through the topic. Hot countries will be investigated through the text ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and we will look at and taste a variety of different fruit. Patterns and change will be investigated through the season of Spring and we will learn about why Easter is celebrated.

There is a link to our Medium Term Planning below, which will give you some more ideas of what we will be covering this term. There are also links to some useful websites for the children to use for their own research and enjoyment.
