EAL Information

Welcome to EAL!
(English as an additional language)

At Westlands School we have a high percentage of Ethnic Minority Groups who between them speak 28 different language.

Many of these children recieve EAL Support from myself and Mrs Ellefsen (EAL Learning Support Assistant) to develop and enhance their English Language skills. The children attend weekly activities in small groups. Here are some of the activities the children are involved in:

  • Literacy Games
  • Numeracy Games
  • Cooking
  • Celebrating Festivals

By supporting these children we aim to help them achieve their full acedmeic potential. Being bilingual is an advantage and maintaining first langauge skills is vital for cognitive development. Acknowledging and celebrating pupils' culture and religion is important to us and enriches the whole school.
