As you know, the old ICT Subject is now called Computing!

 

In this new subject we have been learning all about programming and coding.

 

 

At Westlands, we love using Espresso Coding (Now called Discovery Coding!) in lessons to learn all about Coding and the new Computing Curriculum. Recently we had a visit from the developers of Discovery Coding and the Digital Leaders enjoyed speaking to them and sharing their ideas for how to take our learning further. We are now officially a Discovery Education Partnership School!

E-Safety

Computer Science

Taught once every half term during an ‘E-Safety Focus Week.’ Where the whole school focus on different aspects of E-Safety which are progressive and cover a range of important e-safety aspects.

 

 

 

 

 

Children to learn Word Processing, Graphics, Data Handling, Sound, Video and Animation Skills across the curriculum in other sessions with the use of IT devices to enhance other subjects.

Teachers to ensure IT skills are focused on as well as the LO for that subject.

 

 

 

Programming and Coding to be taught in isolated Computing Sessions once a week where children are taught the steps needed to be computer programmers (including activities off IT devices for learning about algorithms for example).

Sessions to initially focus around Espresso Coding Activities to introduce children to the new terms and new concepts and give staff a rigid and progressive structure to initially follow.
